Regulatory & Legal
Space Law Expert
About the role
As our Space Law Expert you are the legal source of truth behind Caelex. You translate primary law — the EU Space Act, NIS2, COPUOS guidelines, export-control regimes, and national space legislation across dozens of jurisdictions — into the structured, unambiguous rules that power our assessment engines. Every verdict the platform produces has to be defensible, and you make sure it is. The stakes are real: the EU Space Act reaches every operator in the Union from 2030, with penalties of up to 2% of global turnover. Caelex spans 65 jurisdictions, so exhaustive correctness is the product. You will work shoulder-to-shoulder with engineering to encode the law, not just describe it.
What you’ll do
- Maintain and extend the regulatory knowledge base — EU Space Act, NIS2, national space laws, COPUOS/IADC, export control
- Validate engine outputs against primary sources and close gaps
- Author authoritative compliance content: article mappings, guides, and jurisdiction profiles
- Track regulatory change across jurisdictions and keep the corpus current and cited
- Advise enterprise customers and support sales on substantive regulatory questions
- Liaise with national competent authorities, ESA, and partner law firms
- Partner with engineering to encode legal requirements as machine-checkable rules
What you bring
- Law degree with a focus on space, aviation, telecom, or EU regulatory law (or equivalent)
- 3+ years in space or regulatory law — private practice, an agency, or in-house
- Working knowledge of the EU Space Act (COM(2025) 335), the Outer Space Treaty regime, and national space legislation
- Ability to translate dense legal text into structured, unambiguous rules
- Rigorous and citation-disciplined — comfortable working from primary sources
- Fluent in English
Nice to have
- Published space-law research or teaching experience
- Additional EU languages
- Experience at ESA, a national space agency, or an NCA
- Familiarity with NIS2 and export control (ITAR/EAR, EU dual-use)
- Exposure to RegTech or legal engineering
- Comfort working alongside software teams
