International Designator

A standardised identifier (COSPAR ID) assigned to a launched space object, encoding its launch year, launch number, and the piece of that launch.

The international designator, or COSPAR ID, uniquely labels objects placed in orbit. It encodes the year of launch, a sequential launch number for that year, and a letter (or letters) identifying the specific piece — payload, rocket body, or debris — from that launch.

Together with the NORAD catalogue number, it is one of the two principal identifiers used across catalogues, registries, and tracking systems.
