Artemis Accords
A US-led set of non-binding principles (2020) for cooperative and peaceful exploration and use of the Moon, Mars, and beyond, signed by a growing number of states.
The Artemis Accords are a series of bilateral, non-binding political commitments establishing principles for civil space exploration, grounded in the Outer Space Treaty.
They address transparency, interoperability, emergency assistance, registration of space objects, release of scientific data, preservation of heritage, deconfliction of activities through "safety zones," and orbital debris mitigation. The number of signatory states has grown steadily since 2020.
Because they are political commitments rather than a treaty, the Accords complement, rather than replace, binding international space law.
