Zero Debris Charter

A community-led initiative coordinated by ESA (2023) setting ambitious targets to stop the generation of new space debris by 2030.

The Zero Debris Charter is a voluntary commitment, fostered by the European Space Agency, that brings together space actors around shared targets for debris-neutral activities by 2030.

It translates high-level sustainability goals into measurable objectives — for example on successful disposal rates, collision avoidance, and trackability — that go beyond many existing regulatory minimums. Signatories include space agencies, companies, and organisations.

It complements binding standards such as ISO 24113 and the IADC guidelines by pushing the state of the art toward a debris-free environment.
